250L Fuel Contamination Cleaning
Megha Marine Services successfully completed a major fuel contamination recovery and marine engine servicing project on a private yacht at Wyndham Harbour Marina, Melbourne. The project involved the complete removal of approximately 500 litres of contaminated fuel consisting of 250 litres of petrol and 250 litres of diesel. Our marine technicians carried out in-situ fuel tank cleaning, replaced low-pressure and high-pressure fuel filters, replaced spark plugs, serviced the engine and primed the fuel system. The project also included arranging appropriate disposal of the contaminated fuel mixture, restoring the fuel system following the misfuelling incident.

Fuel Contamination Removal The marine technical team removed approximately 500 litres of contaminated fuel consisting of petrol and diesel from the yacht's fuel tank. The contaminated mixture was collected for appropriate disposal. In-Situ Fuel Tank Cleaning The 500-litre fuel tank was cleaned while remaining installed inside the vessel. This approach avoided unnecessary tank removal and structural dismantling while addressing residual fuel contamination. Fuel Filtration System Servicing Both the low-pressure and high-pressure fuel filters were replaced to address potential contamination within the fuel delivery system. Marine Engine Servicing The engine underwent servicing following the fuel contamination incident. The work included replacement of spark plugs and inspection of relevant fuel-system components. Fuel-System Priming The fuel system was primed following the cleaning and filter replacement work to restore fuel delivery and remove trapped air from the system. Contaminated Fuel Disposal Approximately 500 litres of mixed petrol and diesel required appropriate handling, collection and disposal in accordance with applicable environmental and hazardous-waste requirements.
